Watt Whisky PeatSmoke on Gorgie 5 year old

A tasty and enjoyable blended dram created with intention by Mark and Kate at Watt Whisky.  It is a blend of 42% peated blended Malts and 58% North British grain (known for its robust grain spirit)

This blend offers more than you might expect for a relatively young 5-year-old blend.  

Nose:  Mineral Peat smoke, and hint of ripe crisp summer apples, hints of honey caramel, vanilla. lemon, orange and chimney smoke.

Palate:  Quite full bodied and weighty, earthy and smoky, some saltiness.  Slight taste of bacon, mixed with citrus fruits and vanilla.  Peppery and with a kick of spice.  Light wood smoke, slightly charred oak, vanilla and custard (think creme brulee)

Finish:  A balanced and lengthy finish, slightly coastal vibes combined with peat smoke and a light fruit note.  Also reminded of Ginger Snaps, choc limes, and the zest of orange.

The peat is not too overpowering and well integrated, allowing vanilla and the citrus tastes to come to the fore and the peat smoke to finish.
